Seminar #1: "Songwriting--from Inspiration to Creation" featuring Danny Wells.
This seminar will address how to supercharge your idea machine for both music and lyrics. Song structure and format will be included in this hour packed with information on how to be a better writer. Danny Wells will share tips drawing on a long and successful career as a professional songwriter, with songs recorded by artists such as George Strait – Check Yes Or No; Rascal Flatts – Everyday Love, While You LovedMe, and These Days; Collin Raye – Couldn’t Last A Moment; JoDee Messina – Someone Else’s Life, Too Late To Worry; and Julie Roberts – SMILE, Bridge that’s Burning.

Grayson Currin, Music Editor of the IndependentWeekly magazine and the Triangle’s own music guru, will cover how to market your material, as well as yourself if you are a performer. Grayson has written about music for the Independent Weekly since 2003 and has served as the newspaper’s
Music Editor since 2005. He writes about music for Pitchfork Media, Stop Smiling, Paper Thin Walls, The Nashville Scene, Signal to Noise and Shuffle. He lives in Durham with two roommates, too much media and a dog named Ayler.
Lunch Time Keynote Address: Phillip White
Following lunch join Phillip for stories of success and learn how the path of a professional songwriter can be a long and winding road. Phillip will share writing methods as he takes us on a journey through the doors of rejection and results. Phillip’s hits include 2003 song of the year I’m Movin’ On recorded by Rascal Flatts. He currently writes for Disney Music Publishing.
The Long View Center is home to the Central Carolina Songwriters Association. The main mission of the CCSA is to establish a positive environment for songwriters and lyricists where they can grow in their craft by learning and sharing with one another. Monthly discussion and critique sessions are held on the first Tuesday of the month in the Conference Room.
